Shot during a 36-day stay in Sri Lanka, this series of photos by Giorgos Georgiou examine a country that combines history with exotic natural scenery and is home to a variety of cultures, mainly Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslims. In the process of recovery following two and a half decades of civil war, life seems to be back on its normal track, while optimism for a long term peace still remains reserved. At the same time, besides having to deal with war wounds, coastal areas are still struggling to make a comeback after the catastrophic 2004 Tsunami. In spite of the presence of military forces almost everywhere, people feel eager to make plans for a better future, explore possibilities and rediscover their own country and their selves.
