This series by photographer Yiannis Ampatziadis captures the ethereal atmosphere of the Greek island of Anafi. Seeking to develop a unique language across his images, Yiannis instills his work with a spirit that highlights the healing feeling of the landscape. 10×15 postcards were printed in mounken rough mat paper to evoke nostalgia and invite people to start sending postcards again, as Yiannis still does.
When in doubt, walk the pathway. Even when you know where it ends. The island of Anafi is so dear to me. I take the pathway that takes you from the south part all the way to Monolithos. Even during the midday heatwave, you can redefine yourself through the blurriness of physical exhaustion and the island’s unparalleled beauty. Take a dive, baptize yourself over and over again and continue wet, till you are dry again. Listen to the island’s sounds, watch the rocks and let yourself heal. I did.
Yiannis Ampatziadis grew up in Athens and bought his first analog camera at the age of 10.
