Varoulko is a seaside restaurant in Piraeus, that offers a picturesque view of the Mikrolimano marina and exciting seafood dishes and flavors that are rich yet elegantly complex. Lefteris Lazarou – the chef behind it – uses his imagination, his influences from his travels and the time he spent as a galley cook, to create dishes such as fish roe dip, boiled octopus marinated in vinegar, spinach and rice with cuttlefish, and steamed clams in Limnio wine, garlic and parsley.
The restaurant also offers a creative menu which includes grilled cuttlefish with caramelized lentils and orange sauce, mango and shrimp risotto, and grilled squid with black eyed beans and marjoram, as well as desserts created under the supervision of pastry chef Dimitris Chronopoulos. Lazarou was awarded a Michelin star in 2002, the first one ever to be awarded to a chef serving Greek cuisine.
