Located in the heart of Chios’ historic Kampos region, Perivoli offers a one-of-a-kind experience where nature, history, and culture intertwine. Since opening its doors in the summer of 2020, Perivoli invites visitors to explore its lush citrus groves, enjoy handcrafted beverages and delve into the rich heritage of Kampos.
At the heart of Perivoli is a dynamic exhibition housed on the ground floor of a beautifully restored Kampos estate house. This modern display provides an in-depth look at the area’s long-standing citrus tradition, revealing the tools and methods used in cultivation and showcasing the unique citrus varieties that have thrived in Kampos for centuries. The exhibition also offers insight into the societal structure that developed around citrus farming, from the time of the Genovese occupation to today, as well as the trade routes that once carried Kampos’ citrus to Constantinople and Izmir from the 15th century through the late 20th century.
Beyond the historical journey, visitors can stroll through the citrus-scented gardens, relax in the café with fresh juices and cocktails made from estate-grown fruit, and discover a curated selection of local goods in the store. Marmalades and spoon sweets, crafted exclusively from fruit grown by local farmers and free of additives, are a particular source of pride for the owners.
Art and culture are integral to the Perivoli experience as well. On select days, the estate hosts exhibitions from local artists, while on Wednesday nights, classic film noir or French comedies are screened under the orange trees, adding to the estate’s enchanting atmosphere.
