Nestled in the Cyclades, Chatzakis Winery’s remarkable journey into crafting wines embodies the essence of Syros. In 2011, oenologist Nikos Chatzakis established the winery, driven by a profound desire to produce wines that are a testament to their origin. With years of expertise and a commitment to respecting nature’s rhythm, Chatzakis set out to capture the island’s authenticity in every bottle. What sets Chatzakis Winery apart is its unwavering dedication to showcasing Syros’ diverse terroir. Each wine tells a unique story of the vineyards, where soil composition, altitude, and slopes play a pivotal role. There, the vines are a testament to time, with both young and old varieties, including Assyrtiko, Mandilaria, Mavro Aidani, Serifiotiko, and Monemvasia, flourishing under the Aegean sun. Over the years, Chatzakis Winery has cultivated a special bond with Syros’ ancient vines. Collaborating closely with local winegrowers and nurturing their own vineyards with the utmost care, they have preserved the individuality of each grape.
“We respect the individuality of the grape; our limited edition wines, just like the vines, have their own character, personality and peculiarities, they are subtle and fine, tasteful and elegant, with depth and complexity.”
In a recent development, Chatzakis Winery relocated to the northern part of Syros, Apano Meria, an area steeped in winemaking tradition. There, generations have practiced terrace farming on the island’s rugged terrain to cultivate grapes for homemade wines. Perched atop a hill overlooking the Catholic chapel of Saint Benedict, the winery boasts a typical Aegean landscape, bathed in sunlight and surrounded by the sounds of nature. From the winery’s terrace, one can savor unparalleled vistas of the Cyclades. “To the west, you can almost reach out and catch Gyaros, Kea and Kythnos islands, while to the east you can even see the houses of Andros, Tinos and Mykonos”, says the team. This is where Chatzakis Winery invites guests from around the world to partake in wine tastings, creating experiences that meld the Aegean’s natural splendor with its rich winemaking heritage.
