Eileen Pappas Jewelry, launched in Athens in 2019, stands out for its artful blend of Greek heritage, artisanal craftsmanship, and a strong commitment to sustainability. Founder and designer Eileen Pappas creates jewelry that champions ethical practices. With a focus on circularity, Pappas collaborates with local Greek production and small businesses to handcraft each collection. Over 80% of every small batch is produced with zero material waste, setting a new standard for responsible fashion. Drawing inspiration from Greece’s mythology and landscape, the jewelry becomes a gratitude-filled expression for the beauty of existence. Pappas combines ancient techniques with modern flair, creating pieces that resonate with wearers on a soulful level.
In her own words, “In Athens, during wild experimentation in a workshop under the tutelage of renowned art jeweler Peter Bauhuis, I discovered a process that allowed me to create form from the inside out. Like the mollusk I worked inwardly out, coaxing spirals and hollows into being. Clay shaped by hand in a primitive way was systematically dipped in hot wax, and the new “shells” created were carefully removed by peeling and slicing. The clay gradually dried out and wax flowed into this new porosity, resulting in a serendipitous texture. “Phenomena” emerged through this process, abstract yet reminiscent of shells. Exteriors were sensually smooth, with crevasses and spirals within. To these forms, I added one more: a scalloped Venus in metal repoussé, made by hammering metal from behind into undulations and curves. Shelters for the self, painstakingly shaped through subtle accumulation, echoing Nature’s method, while uniquely my own. In fragile times, the tendency is to gather ourselves in, and from this inward gaze, beauty takes shape.”
