In 2016, one hundred years were completed after the birth of the painter Yannis Moralis (1916-2009), one of the most important and most popular artistic figures of the Greek 20th century: pioneer painter, talented engraver, gifted set designer, prominent academic teacher, emblematic personality.
To honour the artist, who left us in 2009, the Benaki Museum, the National Art Gallery-Al. Soutzou, the National Bank Cultural Foundation and the Zoumboulakis Gallery, with the agreement and support of the painter’s family, decided for the first time to participate in the organization of a large retrospective exhibition that would include the whole of his work seen from a new perspective.
The presentation, which will be accompanied by a rich illustrated edition and will be framed by parallel events (audiovisual material, speeches, educational activities etc.), gives the Greek audience the opportunity to come in contact with unique paintings and scenography. The exhibition and publication are taken care of by Mr. Nikolaos Paisios, a scientific associate of the Ghika Gallery.
