Athens Walkthrough is a series of city tours through 20 arcades in the heart of Athens, a chaotic district ideal for inquisitive stroll.
The arcades are the most hidden aspect of big cities, a backstage labyrinth full of history – some call it the city’s “unconscious”. In the center of Athens, endless layers create a diverse urban setting of high contrasts, which is perfect to explore through those underlying hidden paths, away from the everyday summer heat and traffic. Key to these routes are the old exit signs, which maintain a surreal detail often overlooked. Natassa Pappa, the graphic designer and author of the book Into Stoas – Athens Walkthrough, connects the exits and takes you on a trip through the most interesting stoas in the heart of Athens. It’s an opportunity to get to know Athens hidden character and stories, by visiting their interiors of local shops and learning about the signs’ greek typography and design.
