Objects of Common Interest & Greek Marble present Soft Horizons, a captivating installation debuting at Milan Design Week and Fuorisalone 2025 within the newly unveiled Glasshouses of Alcova. This immersive experience reimagines Greek marble, bringing together light, transparency, and material history in an evocative dialogue of transformation. Set within the ethereal environment of a greenhouse, Soft Horizons invites visitors to engage with fragments of Greek marble that have been reshaped and reassembled, suspended with an unexpected lightness. As these marble pieces gently shift in response to human presence, a radiant disc overhead mirrors distant landscapes, subtly connecting the work to the marble’s geological origins.
The installation draws inspiration from the natural processes of dissolution, crystallization, and rebirth, echoing both geological and human craftsmanship. Soft Horizons is not a tribute to permanence, but rather a meditation on transformation and continuity—where discarded remnants of marble evolve into dynamic, living forms. In this intimate dialogue between motion, memory, and materiality, Greek marble is revealed as a living entity, capable of change, reflection, and resonance. This initiative celebrates Greek marble as a material shaped by time and touched by the hands of countless artisans throughout history. From the iconic structures of the Parthenon to contemporary architecture, Greek marble has been integral to the human experience. Carved from ancient landscapes and shaped over millions of years, it has defined civilizations and continues to symbolize purity, strength, and timeless design.
Soft Horizons is part of the development of the brand identity “Greek Marble | Then. Now. Forever.”, an initiative by Enterprise Greece aimed at promoting Greek marble globally. This ongoing campaign celebrates the strength, durability, and versatility of Greek marble, underlining its significance as a bridge between the past and future. Supported by leading Greek marble producers and exporters, including Dionyssomarble, FHL | Kiriakidis, Iktinos Hellas, and others, the installation is part of a strategic effort to reinforce Greek marble’s global presence and recognition.
Soft Horizons will be open to the public from April 7-13, 2025, at Alcova, Pasino Glasshouses, Via Vittorio Emanuele II, 54, Varedo (MB). This installation offers a rare opportunity to experience the material in a new light, demonstrating how ancient marble can still capture the imagination and engage with contemporary design narratives.
