Yiannis Ghikas designed the Mutant vase inspired by the special effects used in science fiction movies to show movement under a person’s skin. Similar to the way that foreign organisms or a parasites appear to move underneath it, altering its smooth surface, the vase’s ridges increase in depth towards the center, creating an impression of it being stretched from within. Yet, as the vase turns, the ridges disappear again, just like the artificial metallic blades appearing gradually from Woolverine’s human hands vanish, leaving its hands intact. It’s a discreet ‘mutation’ that has been incorporated in this 3D-printed vase, to gradually disturb aesthetically its smooth surface.
