These five sculptural installations in the Hermès flagship store on Madison Avenue in NY tell the story of the remarkable inventions and the historical socio-economic changes of the late 18th century Paris, in line with Hermès’ 2013 ‘sporting life’ concept. Each structure is an abstract, three-dimensional collage of materials and uses as a reference the epic craftsmanship of the Parisian ateliers, and the ornamental work and symbolism found in furniture, interiors and building exteriors of that time. In this way, the passing eye travels through time and connects the past with the present by using personal memories and knowledge. The materials used in the project include Japanese lacquer, Saint Laurent Marble, Dark Mahogany, Ancient Green, Ash, Steel and details in Automotive finishes.
