Set in Piraeus, Athens, the MÖTE café was inspired by the aesthetics of the Scandinavian North, and focused, as its name indicates, to create a new meeting point in the area. Cursor Design Studio was commissioned to develop the project’s visual identity, representing the human need to connect and communicate.
As the design team describes, “the logotype results from a synthesis and subtraction study, an exercise of balance between sharp edges and soft curves: a geometrical monogram. Circles (drops, cups, portafilters, and tampers) are interfering and symmetrically subtracting the proportion of the material that they deserve from the initial capital letter of the brand name. Thus, two human forms are shaped and connected by shaking hands. At the center of the monogram, two forms are projected on the negative background: the sun on the top and a coffee mug below it. In this way, a complete meeting scene is created”.
