The vibrant, color-saturated world of the new AGS collection ranges from glassware and tableware to folk-inspired home accessories that form an authentic expression of craftsmanship and art. Moving further than the intricate leatherwork of the previous collection, the brand now concentrates on ceramic art starting its journey from the island of Lesvos.
“When setting a table, I prefer to mix different colors and themes than making a perfect matching setting”, says Christina Martini, Co-founder and Designer of AGS. The collection is a collaboration of craftsmen, ceramicists, glass blowers, artists, a seamstress, candle makers, and an illustrator. The wheel-thrown plates are handpainted by Elpida Kourtzi and are based on her grandfather’s iconic pottery designs. The significant central ‘eye’ taken from Kourtzis animal-shaped jugs and vases is every set’s show stopper. The color palette used consists of tonal colors, blues, yellows, oranges and greens. The animal carafes were also made in Lesvos by the favorite student of Nikos Kourtzis, Yorgos Akamatou. The shapes were also based on the original animal-shaped jugs and the designs’ details were simplified to match the plates. The wine glasses were created by a local glass blower featuring the same colors as the rest of the tableware. Following the Ancient Greek theme incorporating the AGS trademark leather, a tsipouro carafe and two shot glasses were made out of white glazed clay, both covered with natural leather hot stamped with thin lines, reminiscent of Greek columns. Candles of two sizes in terracotta, blush and off-white, as well as linen placemats and napkins adorned with embroideries created by illustrator Frances Costelloe complete a matching dinner setting that sparks joy in every use.
