Bridging the gap between ancient tradition and modern design, architect and product designer Theo Galliakis -born and raised in Crete- unveils Amphora. Inspired by the timeless allure of amphoras from ancient Greece, this creation pays homage to the rich history and symbolic significance of these vessels. As the designer describes, “Amphoras in ancient Greece were originally used for the transport and storage of wine and water. They were also given as prizes at the Panathenaic festivals. However, there is a minority of gold amphoras (gold as a symbol of kingship and connection between humans and Gods) and kraters, that were given as gifts to various gods and deities, in order to ask for favors and blessings or simply to show their admiration.” Through this object, design enthusiasts are invited to appreciate the timeless beauty and symbolism of these vessels, as they continue to inspire in the 21st century.
