Yannis Karpouzis
Yannis Karpouzis is an Athens and Reykjavik-based artist working with photography, filmmaking, and text. He has studied at the Technical University of Athens, Copenhagen’s DTU, the Fine Art School of Athens (Master of Fine Arts), and the Architecture school of Athens (Master in cultural theory). He has been awarded the Newcomer film-maker award by the Greek Film Center at the 22nd Thessaloniki film festival for the hybrid genre essay film, “Nikos Karouzos: poems on the tape recorder”. His book “The paper time is over”, has been shortlisted for the Greek state’s youth literature award and has received the literature youth award by “Anagnostis” magazine. His long-term photographic project “Parallel Crisis” which narrates the story of an immobilized time during the crisis has received the Descubrimientos prize in PHotoEspana 2015 and the Portfolio Review Prize in Athens Photo Festival 2016. His works have been presented to major Greek and international institutions. He is a member of the Association of Icelandic Artists (SIM).
