The “Odyssey” by Thalia-Maria Georgouli, featured now in the Kriezotou 3 Window by the Benaki Museum Shop, is an intimate and delicate project that offers unexpected connections with the Homeric epic through adventurous exploration, a profound connection with nature, and a resolute commitment to artistic expression.
For over two decades, Thalia-Maria has dedicated herself exclusively to the craft of working with silver, an understated and precious material that allows her to create unparalleled sculptural objects of remarkable aesthetic value. At the heart of this exhibition lies her collection of spoons, an enchanting universe of vibrant treasures that embody Thalia-Maria’s creative obsessions: the allure of silver, meticulous metalwork, a love for the textures and colors of nature, and a pursuit of simplicity in form. The process of crafting the spoons begins with the search for the perfect pebble. Guided by her deep-rooted connection with nature, Thalia-Maria seeks out the most extraordinary pebbles, a quest she has embarked upon for as long as she can remember. In this endeavor, she is aided by her close friends, who have graciously contributed many of the exhibition’s pebbles, each with its own unique story. Thalia-Maria draws inspiration from the pebble’s inherent beauty to shape the design of each spoon. With great care and dedication, she forges the spoons in her workshop located in the heart of Athens’ historic center.
“The possibilities are endless, and every new piece remains unique and beautiful in its own organic way. Each pebble holds a personal story, as we can only imagine where that natural stone first started its harmonious journey and stumbled into my path” .
