For the past two years, Christos Kourtoglou has been illustrating and designing the foreign literature books for the Greek publishing house Ikaros, creating a beautiful and unique series of illustrated book covers.
“Most of the novelists are newcomers yet extremely talented, so besides reading for work, it is also a pleasure. The challenge is to try and understand what the novel is about and capture the essence and feel of it, so that I can represent it visually in the best possible way. Designing fiction first of all means giving life to stories but you also need a dynamic cover that can stand out in the bookstore. For that I am constantly exploring my illustration technique so that it fits with each idea that comes out after reading. The goal for the series is to have a consistent look but at the same time each book to have each own character. As we all know every novel is unique thus it deserves a unique cover.”
