Located in the Athens suburb of Ekali, Woodwing Villa is a stunning family residence adaptable to all seasons. In winter, it functions as an introverted shell that closes to provide protection, while in summer it opens up towards its surroundings. On the front façade, the small slits and openings permit natural light to enter by maintaining a sense of privacy; on the contrary, at the rear of the house, the extensive glazing of the ground floor opens up, bringing together indoor and outdoor spaces.
The upper levels are carefully designed to tailor the needs of each family member, and are topped by a lightweight roof and glazed panels that allow daylight in. The material palette for the structure comprises a series of natural materials such as Cedar and American Walnut cladding, and a render of powdered brick interspersed with resilient exposed concrete and stone. The latter is also present in the interior, which has been furnished using both contemporary and classic design elements.
