Squeeze coffee–bar is located in Matogiannia, one of the most well-known and cosmopolitan alleys of Mykonos. It operates throughout the day, serving fresh juice, coffee and cold dishes in the morning, while in the evening it becomes an atmospheric cocktail bar.
The aim of the design was to express the purity of lines and traditional Aegean Sea architecture through a minimalist approach. For this reason, HUB studio – who provided the architectural design – created the characteristic Cycladic arc in the middle of the space, without however obstructing natural light nor forming strict boundaries. The rough wall and floor surfaces in gray – beige cement mortar, the hanging lightings made of straw and the roof made of wicker create a warm and intimate atmosphere.
The most prominent elements of the design are the triangular patterns of the traditional Cycladic dovecotes, used in the furniture of the bar, the living room and the lit cavities in the wall that separate the kitchen from the main area. The black metal frame and the gray marble that cover the shelves and the tables add a contemporary feel to the whole space.
