This is a 10,000 sq.m., low-energy, mixed-use complex that hosts an imports and distribution company in a recently re-vitalized area of Athens. The L-shaped, four-story building is located on a side street of Piraeus St., adjacent to a single-story retail that provides the podium for a roof garden. Opening up towards the main street, the garden provides public space and an environmental buffer for the offices behind it. As it slopes towards the back and under the main office volume, it suggests continuity and sets a boundary between the podium and the ground floor of the offices and showrooms. The exposed concrete surfaces and structure increase the thermal mass of the building, while the raw finishes of the interior add a timeless but disciplined character to the design.
