On a sun-drenched southern tip of Mykonos Island, a weatherworn house was transformed into a modern day agora, the Scorpios Beach Club, offering an atmospheric experience that celebrates beach culture and presents a total experience to visitors, taking the mystical charge of nighttime rituals into daytime.
Scorpios was developed by a cross-disciplinary design team led by Michael Schickinger of Lambs and Lions as the visionary and creative director of the project. Inspired by Michael’s vision, k-studio worked closely with him and Annabell Kutucu, the interior decorator, to develop Scorpios’ master plan and architectural language. The design result is an atmospheric experience that celebrates beach culture and transcends the various design disciplines to present a total experience that submerges the visitor from the master plan to its every little detail.
K-studio tried to infuse Scorpios with the traditional materials and construction techniques found in Cycladic architecture to root it in its site and context. It was then peppered with collected objects found by Michael Schickinger and Annabell Kutucu on their travels. Mykonos is a multi-faceted island, celebrating the contrast between its many layers. Starting with its natural setting it is a place that revels in acute juxtapositions with its hot, rocky landscape and its refreshing, deep blue seas, Mykonos is a place of contrasts. You can party 24 hours a day; you can eat out at exclusive restaurants and enjoy shopping; you can focus on water sports or have quieter time relaxing in more secluded locations surrounded by the beautiful rocky landscape. Even when summer is in full swing you can still find a slice of the island that caters for your every need.
K-studio wanted Scorpios to be a stage that invites all aspects of Mykonos life but always with a focus on leisure. The design is inspired by natural materials that set a laid back, down to earth and comfortable back drop for all the different activities that will take place there. It is a place that simultaneously excites the senses and calms the soul.
