Designed to house the headquarters of a pharmaceutical company, this office building in N. Kifissia by MOB Architects has an elongated rectangular shape, offering ample natural light and uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape. It comprises of three aboveground and two underground levels: the offices, meeting rooms, a restaurant, a canteen and library are situated on the top three levels, while the underground levels serve mainly for parking and auxiliary uses. A large area on the first underground level is occupied by a multi-purpose hall that can function as either a single large hall or three smaller ones. The shape of the plot, building code restrictions, and the rows of pine trees on the site influenced the shaping of the building into a single elongated rectangular volume, with a small number of projections and recesses along its length, organized into two wings with two entrances and three service cores (stairs – elevators – restrooms).
In order to meet the company’s demands, the interior spaces were divided into offices and meeting rooms, using a column grid along its length. To ensure plenty of natural light and uninhibited views of the exterior, large areas of glazing were installed on all elevations, while sun shading was achieved mainly through stainless steel messes. The latter were selected because, while they exclude approximately 60% of direct sunlight, they still allow for uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape.
