SO FAR architecture and interior design studio, based in Pagrati, is housed in a 28 sqm space that used to be a hair salon. Featuring a single-space layout on the ground floor of an apartment building, the space is characterized by towering 4.50m height window walls. As the architects describe, “To address the challenge of the single space, we designed a box shell inside the shell- with a secret entrance, which hides the secondary uses such as the WC, kitchenette, storage, and equipment. The box is covered in marble-textured slabs, making it the only solid and stable element in the space”. A desk is attached to the box, creating a unified composition. The LED tube above the furniture completes the working and meeting space. The studio’s concept expresses the idea of every member being equally active in the creative process. Sound-absorbing curtains that can also black out light were placed taking advantage of the space’s height. Their yellow velvet fabric adds a playful, vivid texture to the clean, minimal space. Depending on the day or time, the curtains can be open, semi-closed, or closed, changing the visual perspective of the studio both inside and outside. The team designed the lighting varying in color, intensity, and type, in order to create a dynamic and surprising experience for passersby. At night, the secret light coming from the top of the marble box spreads onto the ceiling, transforming the studio into a colorful bright object that blends into the neighborhood.
