MALVI aimed at creating a memorable office space for a newly arrived surgeon in Thessaloniki, Greece, by providing an environment as distinct as possible from the one usually associated with a doctor’s office. A flexible partition was designed to separate the medic’s office from the reception area, while its bulging shape – inspired by the form of acoustic waves – is a reference to the practitioner’s field of specialty. The sculptural surfaces were created using medium density fiberboards (MDF), which were deliberately left untreated, to highlight the simplicity of the materials used as opposed to their complicated form. The walls of the main waiting room are covered with the words of the Hippocratic oath, the most important of which stand out in laser-cut, acrylic glass.
