Georgios Apostolopoulos Architects have brought a 1970s building in Pagrati, Athens, to life with the transformation of a former storage space into Zinodotou Studio. More than just a design studio, the space is a dynamic blend of creativity and collaboration. Zinodotou Studio breaks away from conventional office setups with its open-plan layout, encouraging transparency and collaboration. The architects aimed for a multi-purpose space that goes beyond the traditional office environment.
Preserving the building’s character, large windows facing the street were retained. Bespoke iron frames and curtains create a visual link with the local community, allowing the studio to be part of the neighborhood’s narrative. The studio combines a workspace with custom-made marine plywood furniture, a meeting area, and a thoughtfully integrated kitchen. Hidden doors maintain the clean, gallery-like atmosphere, while sandblasted moca marble blurs the lines between interior and exterior. Custom-made iron features, beige textured walls, and micro cement flooring create a cohesive visual identity. The exterior walls mirror the textured finish, establishing a continuous flow throughout the space. As the team describes, “This project went beyond simply creating a practical office. It was about creating a space that reflects our design ethos and fits well within the local community”.
