A white and blue color palette, ancient Greek columns, and arched elements were combined by design studio Masquespacio to evoke a pure, Mediterranean feeling at Egeo restaurant in Valencia. The design team, Ana Milena Hernández and Christophe Penasse was commissioned by the Egeo’s owners who already count two more restaurants in Madrid, along with a request to offer continuity to the existing interior design identity of the spaces, while adding a different kind of experience.
In an attempt to embed Greek architectural elements into the design, the team reintroduced cement materials, distinctive pops of blue, and forms that are found in ancient Greek houses yet in a contemporary way. The ancient columns were painted blue and were produced with a 3D printer to reveal their most contemporary version, while led tubes were added to the structure. Last but not least, the order bar was set in the middle of the space aiming to recreate a bustling environment as if customers order their souvlaki from a mobile kiosk in the middle of a Greek market.
