Located in the village of Megalochori, Santorini, Xylo is a carving gallery that captures the essence of Cycladic culture. Named after the Greek word for “wood,” Xylo is designed by Dashing Architects to celebrate traditional Greek arts and crafts through a modern lens. The gallery features metallic and wooden panels inspired by traditional embroideries, used as partitions and shelving to showcase the artist’s wooden sculptures. Preserved carpenter’s workbenches add an authentic touch to the space. With an open-plan layout, Xylo’s central display unit maintains a sense of openness while organizing the space. Inspired by Cycladic architecture, the gallery’s cool white palette provides a serene backdrop that highlights the intricate wood carvings.
