‘Aqua Bay’ is a five star hotel addressed to families and children, who can relax in a calm and cozy environment and enjoy themselves in the pools of its water park. Located in Zakynthos, the complex consists of two separate buildings, which communicate through a common exterior along the poolside. The juxtaposition of private and public lounge areas offers convenience, while the geometric lines and the purity of materials accentuate the character of a space used for resting. The lobby is a three-dimensional visualization of the plan of a house, as only the traces of the walls can be seen on the ceiling and the floor. Combined with the use of different materials and furniture, they define different spaces yet maintain the unified perception of the plan. The whale illustration at the lobby, thematically inspired by children’s play, pays homage to the element of water, one of the main themes of the hotel. The herringbone patterns on the marble and wooden floors and the customary designed furniture and lighting add to the classic character of the space. This co-existence of contemporary and traditional is consistent in all the elements of the design.
