In the heart of Ilisia, Plaini Karahalios Architects have transformed a 1970s apartment into a modern residence. Originally designed with an L-shaped layout, the apartment featured separate wings for public and private spaces. The recent redesign artfully blends these areas, creating a smooth transition from intimacy to sociability through clever frames and transitions. While retaining the original layout, each function now interacts in new ways, emphasizing the public element and refining the overall geometry. The apartment’s fragmented in-between spaces have been replaced with a unified living area, connected to the kitchen by a wooden pause housing a dining table. In a nod to the owner’s love for contemporary art, the apartment is painted entirely in white, serving as a canvas for creative expression. Wood is the primary material, defining spaces and adding a three-dimensional touch, particularly in the transition to the kitchen. Throughout the apartment, the neutral white backdrop allows personal expression through furniture, artifacts and a surprising pop of color in the pink guest bathroom.
