Situated on a confining, long, narrow and sloping site, this house consists of two prisms – one three stories high and the other two – but nevertheless feels and functions as one. The carefully though and smart design uses the way the movement is organized through the house, and the views framed and articulated by the openings. The prisms cover roughly the same area on plan and are connected by a bridge at the first floor level, which are brought together – both literally and in terms of use – to create the family room of the house. Facing south and looking out through a series of large floor-to-ceiling glazed doors that disappear at either end when opened fully, the room is essentially turned into a balcony.
