Residence Viglostasi, perched on the rocky slopes of the Cycladic Island of Syros, is a single, private holiday home brought to life by Athens-based studio Block722. Commissioned by a family of four who sought their dream retreat on Syros, the project draws inspiration from the charming simplicity of Greek island architecture. Block722’s signature blend of minimalist design, natural materials, and neutral colors perfectly matched the client’s vision of a generous, calming space that embraces the island’s slow indoor/outdoor lifestyle. The result is a 500 sq m complex of low, rectangular volumes thoughtfully arranged around pathways, terraces, gardens, and patios. The main house boasts a principal suite, a second bedroom, and an open-plan living area. Two guest suites complement the main residence, offering shared facilities and captivating vistas. A central outdoor ‘plaza’ serves as the heart of the home, leading to a breathtaking 25m infinity pool and a lounge terrace with uninterrupted sea views. Below, a private gym and yoga terrace offer a secluded space for exercise and meditation. “Spreading the home on different levels manages the site’s steep incline, and it also permits long views from almost everywhere,” as the architects describe. The choice of materials, including stone, wood, and plaster, traditional shutters and pergolas, and a garden of native plants, seamlessly integrates the home into the surrounding Greek landscape. The residence embodies the client’s desire for a home made of traditional Aegean structures offering diverse views, atmospheres, and enjoyable spaces. It effortlessly connects indoor and outdoor spaces, framing captivating views and leading to a private cove for swimming and yacht mooring.
