Nestled in Areopoli, a village famed for its stone architecture in the Mani Peninsula, Baya stands as a modern design that honors its historical roots. The project by Norma Interiors embraces natural materials to create a space that harmonizes with its surroundings. Restoring the original stone walls at the rear of the building, the design highlights these with subtle linear lighting, bringing warmth and attention to the structure’s history. Inside, two floating cubic bathroom structures, clad in mirror tiles and underlit for effect, blend seamlessly into the space. Natural stone tiles cover the floors, while custom-designed travertine pieces and walnut-stained wood add a tactile richness. The Calacatta Viola marble bar countertop offers a luxurious focal point. Designed as an all-day bar, Baya’s interior evolves with the shifting light, creating a dynamic atmosphere that balances tradition with contemporary style.
