This Art warehouse is an open, solemn and simple monolithic Modern structure in Boeotia that forms part of its surroundings as if it had been standing there for ages. It’s dome, a timeless and interregional architectural coronation element spanning from antiquity to Modernism, interacts with the intimate space of the artist’s house, the ‘cell’. The fair-faced, reinforced concrete structure is complemented by rusted and burnished steel openings. The latter, which relate to the Sun’s trajectory, the interior lighting and the ventilation, stem from transverse horizontal sections in the building shell. Its orthogonal plan is divided into 3 zones: the cantilever with the balcony on the south – where the entrance is situated – the artist’s workspace and the attic in the north, which serves as a storage space. A straight staircase connects the two floor levels, while the cantilevered concrete steps serve as exhibition stands for the artist’s work. The warehouse was constructed in an honest, disciplined and economic way and it manages to truly converse with the spirit of its landscape.
