Perched in the picturesque northern part of Kefalonia, near Fiskardo village with views stretching toward Ithaca, stands the ‘Skeleton’ project by A.C.R.E Architecture. The residence blends tradition and innovation, anchored by a modest concrete skeleton and a grand olive tree. The team aimed to honor the original structure while adding modern functionality. They cleverly expanded the living space with a mezzanine floor and embraced symmetry both inside and out. Inspired by local design, they elongated doorways to create a sense of openness. Adjacent to the main house, a stone studio/storage space adds practicality to the ensemble. The landscape unfolds in tiers, with a tranquil pool area below and the dwellings above, centered around the ancient olive tree—a symbol of local heritage. The materials used, like white plaster, grey metal, wood and stone, pay homage to the island’s architectural roots while blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings.
