A.C.R.E Architecture has completed the restoration of an 1876 stone house on the island of Kefalonia, near Fiskardo, overlooking the tranquil coastline of Ithaca. The project blends traditional craftsmanship with modern updates, preserving the home’s original character while enhancing its functionality. The restoration process uncovered the house’s architectural evolution, including a mezzanine addition, which the architects retained to honor its history. Stone walls were reinforced to ensure structural integrity, and original features like stone window and door frames were carefully restored. The exterior maintains its classic charm with ochre stucco walls, terracotta roof tiles and traditional wooden elements. Inside, the design focuses on a seamless connection to the surrounding landscape. A large bedroom window frames views of the lush outdoors, filling the interior with natural light. The interior materials include white walls, light wood, and stone flooring, creating a calm, cohesive atmosphere. The outdoor space was reimagined to incorporate a dark-tiled swimming pool, which reflects the natural surroundings and complements the historic stone patio. This thoughtful restoration balances heritage with modern living, resulting in a home that respects its past while embracing the future.
