Urbi et Orbi have designed a series of concrete light fittings that challenge our perception of traditional building materials, adding a minimal and contemporary touch to interior spaces. Mostly pendant, the fittings are stand out for their clean and refined lines, and are available in different tones of grey. Their rough-cast exterior offers a rawness of texture, color and a wonderful tactile quality, combined with elegant and detailed finishes. The industrial feeling of the designs accentuates neutral interior color schemes, while they can work equally well as single, statement lights, or hung in clusters and groups.
The fittings are made of Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC), which combines a mixture of fine sand, cement, polymer, water, other admixtures and alkali-resistant (AR) glass fibers. Although the relative density of the material is similar to concrete, it can be much thinner, making the fittings lightweight. In addition, the high dose of glass fibers leads to high tensile strength while the high polymer content makes the concrete flexible and increases the objects’ resistance to cracking.
