In the ‘2d’ and ‘Concrete’ series by 157+173, simple materials have been used in unexpected ways to deliver useful objects and fresh design ideas. The 2d series was partly inspired by a surreal scene in the Charlie Chaplin movie «Modern Times», where some items, such as a pocket watch and a small oil container, were accidentally put into a crushing machine; instead of being completely damaged, they came out being two-dimensional objects.
Following that humorous approach, a line of lighting products was designed whose main view appears two dimensional but nevertheless stand as a fully operational lighting sources, revealing their electrical equipment structure at the back.
The Concrete series of lights and pencil boxes are objects that borrow the sense of materials experienced in a modern, city-based environment, and form design items that can be used in everyday life.
