This series of photographs by Christos Demetriou is centered around the element of light, and more specifically, the study of lighting with an illuminating source which aims at, indicates and, at times, misleads. With his photographs, he seems to try to exorcise darkness, to prevent its coming or, at least, to extend it. An insignificant construction in the open space is lighted like a monument and unexpected geometrical points appear in the dim light. Humble landscapes acquire in one occasion the prestige of worth seeing and in another occasion reveal an unfamiliar side of things. In the photographer’s own words, it’s “a return to the essence, to the articulated speech with the minimum possible means”.
