Splash is a coffee and snack shop overlooking the Mikrolimano yacht marina in Pireaus that features a bespoke, sculptural, almost ‘liquid’ ceiling installation and lighting scheme. The construction is suspended and creates a second ceiling abstractly reflecting the brand personality of Splash. The striated wood-slatted system conceals the view of the lighting fixtures, mechanical and plumbing, on the longitudinal axis, while offering a virtual canopy. The stylish and modern interior has a fresh, inviting feel to it and the lighting design was kept neutral in support of the overall architectural aesthetic, balancing diffuse lighting and accentuated light distribution. The lighting solution is simple and cost-effective and utilizes solely low energy LED lights throughout, ensuring the design is as sustainable as possible. In particular, ambient lighting is produced by ceiling recessed linear luminaires suitable for diffused illumination. Suspended narrow beam spotlights provide special emphasis required for highlighting horizontal surfaces such as the seating tables. Layers of concealed warm white linear lighting compliment the curvy ceiling and stimulate visual interest to the shelves.
