Bureau de Change has unveiled a flagship store for esteemed jeweler Nikos Koulis on Athens’ Voukourestiou Street, merging architectural refinement with the intricate artistry of Koulis’ jewelry. The facade, inspired by Athens’ historic city walls, features an irregular window that offers glimpses into the interior, inviting curiosity. Embossed aluminum panels, referencing 19th-century jewelry boxes, combine with travertine and marble, connecting the contemporary design with Greece’s ancient roots. Inside, the design plays with light and texture, with silk wall coverings contrasting against custom dark oak flooring. A striking staircase, hidden behind bevelled glass panels, leads to a mezzanine salon, framed by elongated metal prisms that create a theatrical sense of space. The mezzanine’s softer palette encourages relaxation, while the illuminated prisms, visible from the street, add an air of mystery. Custom furniture, including a tea table and mirrors, complements the store’s bespoke nature, while lacquered display cases with delicate metal legs showcase the jewelry. The store harmonizes contemporary design with the artistic heritage of Athens, creating a space that encapsulates the distinctive elegance of Nikos Koulis’ brand.
