Nestled in Kardamyli Mani, Greece, Seaside Lodge by Detale has been transformed from a run-down house into a carefully designed 60-square-meter guesthouse. This two-bedroom retreat captures the essence of the Aegean landscape while embracing modern design. The renovation focuses on enhancing sea and garden views, with carefully placed windows and sightlines that blend indoor and outdoor spaces. Limestone used both inside and out, creates a seamless transition between the guesthouse and its surroundings. Inside, the use of colored limestone adds warmth, while the open-plan layout of the kitchen, sitting, and dining areas fosters both relaxation and socializing. The project addresses three key challenges: optimizing the small space to include essential areas, ensuring natural light reaches all rooms, and maintaining a strong connection to the sea. Ceramic breeze blocks enhance light distribution, and wide windows and strategic seating maximize the sea view. Sustainability was a priority, with reused materials like pitched roof tiles and stone reducing waste. Old concrete surfaces were replaced with light-colored limestone to improve temperature control. Locally sourced materials, including custom furniture and ceramic sinks, contribute to the home’s character. The garden features carefully pruned pine trees and local plants, creating a natural, shaded retreat.
