In the heart of Thessaloniki, Fluo Architecture & Design Studio breathes new life into a 1950s apartment, drawing inspiration from the city’s diverse history. Reflecting the iconic facades of Aristotelous Square, the apartment’s grandeur unfolds with restored high ceilings, visible beams and gypsum decorations, all bathed in well-placed illumination. The open lounge area, featuring constructions reaching 3.20 meters in height, creates an airy and light-filled space. A characteristic patio, adorned with decorative cement tiles, brings light and greenery indoors, showcasing a cultural fusion between East and West. Inside, classic chevron parquet flooring adds a touch of timeless craftsmanship. The bedroom boasts a double-height closet of metal and glass, echoing the elegance of the en suite bathroom with its white marble backdrop. The second bathroom, with grey marble, green tiles and colonial-style wallpaper, introduces a hint of theatricality. A strategically placed office space, adjacent to the patio, allows natural light to flood in through a metal-framed glass construction. The open-plan kitchen and living room, anchored by a white corian-covered island, become a cohesive space with the dining table integrated for a streamlined aesthetic. The apartment’s transformation extends to repurposing, converting a former smoking room into a creative space for the family’s children. A raised metal platform cleverly conceals a wardrobe, office and bookshelf underneath, maximizing the limited space.
Fluo Architecture & Design Studio’s new apartment design pays homage to the multi-cultural spirit of Thessaloniki
