The 1st Public Art Festival is a multi-leveled festival that takes place in Athens (27 September – 31 October 2014) and involves aspects of art that we encounter in public space, such as street art and graffiti, as well as other forms that do not belong to a certain established framework. It consists of cultural events and activities centered around the thematic of Multiformity, as a reference not only to the various forms of public space art but also to the different aspects and contradictions of the city itself. The festival’s aim is to define and designate the forms of art that exist in public space and to inform the public about them. At the same time, to enhance the urban environment through visual art interventions (‘Open Gallery’ activities) and to establish Athens as an international reference point for art in public space.
The 1st Public Art Festival is organized by Studio 4, curated by Andreas Fakis and implemented in cooperation with the Benaki Museum, Romantso and the Greek Film Archive, under the aegis of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Organization of Culture, Youth and Sports of the Municipality of Athens.
