In his paintings, George Karakasoglou narrates short stories of an imaginary world, describing them in the finest details. Sometimes colorful, other times black and white, in his reality logical and illogical become one. He uses various materials: oil, acrylics, watercolors, pens and pencils, depending on what he wants to draw and on the nature of the sketch itself. His compositions aren’t final till the very end, as they are elaborated all the way through completion. This leads to artworks rather surrealistic, where the strong colors and the distorted shapes increase the emotional tension to the point of expressionism.
His themes vary. Self-referential or not, they deal with the platitude of human relationships and with social apathy. His main goal is to express his feelings and his distinct view of the world. George Karakasoglou’s colorful, complicated and deliberately distorted work has a close tie to animation and his narrative awakens the viewer’s childish creativity, re-establishing in this way his adult concerns and anxieties.
